The Fin

The fin, sometimes called the vertical stabilizer, provides directional stability. It keeps the nose pointed straight ahead. The rudder is the movable part of the fin. Deflecting the rudder produces a turn. You can find out what the fin does by taking it off and flying your plane without it. This video shows what happened when I flew my AMA Alpha without its fin. Look quickly, it is on the ground immediately.
