The 22nd Annual Worldwide Free Flight Postal Competition Results

The 22nd Annual Worldwide Free Flight Postal got off late due to a change in directors. After 21 years of heading this wonderful happening, Jim Moseley hung up his directors shoes. I found out that this had happened while visiting him and his wife in Geneseo, New York for the FAC Non-NATS. I was really surprised that the Postal was about to become no more. Well, I thought this was not a great idea, so I asked Jim if I could try my hand at directing the Postal, and got a yes. And so, here I am, trying my best to keep the Postal alive.

To try to raise participation, I tried adding some Novice events, but did not get any entrants. I also, not understanding scale competition, tried to institute three scale events, which unfortunately had no entrants.

The original events Jim had in his last year’s Postal remain. I will keep the Novice events in the hope some youngsters will take up the hobby, and try their hand at building and flying.

I’ve also taken over the “Tiny Gliders Postal” competition for the upcoming year, and hope I will keep that from going away.

Lastly, I figured out that my version of scale competition was not going in the correct direction, and decided to add all the various FAC events, except mass launch events. There is no scale judging involved. Rules are the same as outlined in the FAC rulebook that can be found online. I am hoping that having FAC events will increase the Postal participation.

I do not know if the 23rd Postal will be the last year, but I am hoping it has survived the transition from Jim’s care, into my care. Please pass the word to all your friends and club mates that the Postal is still alive with the 23rd Annual version now underway. Announcement flyers were emailed, or sent snail mail. If you or anyone would like a copy, please forward your email or snail mail addy to me. My email is caleyannhand@yahoo.com

Participation was very low this year, with only 19 participants competing in 12 events. I also didn’t get much in the way of conversation or photos about the experiences of the flyers, so this year will be just basically the results. Please see the results below. Thanks so much for participating, and I hope the 23rd Postal will be bigger and better than ever. Caley
